With Australia experiencing one of the worst bushfire seasons on record, people from all over the country are coming together to help the communities and animals affected in any way they can.

This Saturday, Bunbury coffee shop The Townhouse will be hosting a fundraiser laneway sale to raise money for the Rural Fire Service and Red Cross.

The Townhouse owner Craig Lyons said he came up with the idea behind the event a few years ago.

“We live in a society where people are constantly updating things and we tend to keep things we no longer use,” he said.

“So I thought instead of asking for cash donations we have asked people to donate something of value that can be resold and won’t necessarily cost them money.

“The idea is people can come along to the fundraiser, which will be set up similar to a market and purchase a second-hand item for a price they see fit.”

While shoppers are snatching up a bargain, children will be kept entertained on the bouncy castle and well fed at the pancake station.

“There will be a mini fair going on at the same time as the market stalls, so there is plenty to do,” he said.

“We have had so many local businesses jump on board and get involved which is great.

“Everyone is in a position to help out, most of us just don’t know how we can and this seemed like a great way to show do so.”

Th event will be held on Saturday in the lane next to The Townhouse coffee shop from 9am.
