Hit92.9 is the latest radio station to make some shock mid-year changes to its breakfast line-up.
The station has announced the departure of Ryan Jon from the breakfast show he shares with Heidi Anderson and Xavier Ellis, with Jon revealing the news on air this morning.
Jon joined the show in October 2017, recently going missing from the air for almost a month and announcing his engagement to his long-term partner Brigitte Rodda, who lives in regional Victoria.
“I’ve decided I’m going to finish up here at Hit92.9, stepping out of the radio bubble and Perth bubble for an extended bit of time. Hanging up the headphones for now,” Jon said.
The broadcaster made the decision partly based on starting a family and Rodda’s successful role in the wine industry.
“I was coming to work going ‘this is crazy, this is my dream job’, then going home and feeling guilty that I wasn’t with Brigitte and wanted to start a family,” he added.
Hit92.9’s breakfast show has been plagued by falling ratings, with the latest Gfk survey results placing the show on a 7.9 per cent share of the Perth radio audience, just ahead of 96FM on 7.1 per cent.
Jon will be replaced by Mix94.5 drive-time presenter Pete Curulli — who recently filled in on air while Jon was away — starting on Monday, July 29.
Hit92.9 content director Tim Arnold said while Jon would missed he was happy to welcome Curulli back to the team.
“Pete recently did a short fill-in spot with Heidi and Xavier, and the fun that came out of the speakers was infectious. It’s incredibly exciting to have Pete return to the station he got his start at years ago,” he said.
Anderson is pregnant and is understood to be going on maternity leave next month, with her replacement yet to be announced.
