There’s no shortage of seasonal content on Netflix and the blockbuster of this year’s bunch is The Christmas Chronicles, which was produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, the Harry Potter films). Kurt Russell is the man in red in this family-friendly film, which centres around young Chicago siblings (Judah Lewis and Darby Camp) who are on a mission to catch Santa in the act and wind up helping him save Christmas.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding

From the guilty pleasures file comes the follow-up to A Christmas Prince, which was the surprise hit of Christmas 2017. The sequel finds New York journalist Amber (Rose McIver) set to walk down the aisle with her royal beau Richard (Ben Lamb), prince of Aldovia, on December 25 — if only they can navigate some pre-wedding dramas.

2018 RAC Christmas Pageant

The Christmas Pageant is a WA institution and this year’s event, held last Saturday, did not disappoint. Seven’s broadcast, hosted by Geof parry and Amelia Broun, will relive the magic of the annual event, which saw thousands fill the CBD to watch the more than 1900 participants make their way through the streets.

Stan’s acclaimed police comedy No Activity does its version of a festive special, which sees detectives Hendy (Patrick Brammall) and Stokes (Darren Gilshenan) reunite for a Christmas Eve stakeout outside a shopping centre where a disgruntled Santa Claus is holding a group of shoppers hostage. Also returning are original cast members Genevieve Morris, Harriet Dyer and Dan Wyllie.

Running since 1912 the famous pre-Christmas spectacular this year hosted the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Take That and Rick Astley. Staged last month at London’s Palladium Theatre and officiated by actor and comic Greg Davies, it’s a must-see TV event for music-lovers and royal-watchers alike.

Carols in the Domain

Now in its 36th year, the annual concert returns to The Domain in Sydney for a star-studded evening of festive favourites. This year’s performers include Ross Wilson, Penny McNamee, Thirsty Merc, Isaiah Firebrace and Perth’s Samantha Jade.

Sandringham: The Queen at Christmas

This 2017 program offers an inside look at a hallowed royal family institution: Christmas at the Queen’s Sandringham country estate in Norfolk. After a massive year for the royals, with Harry and Meghan’s wedding and pregnancy announcement, the birth of William and Catherine’s third child, Prince Louis, and the 65th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, the family will gather at the royal retreat for its annual festive celebration. A host of royal “insiders” and commentators offer their insights into what’s in store, from the itinerary, menu and decorations to the many traditions and expected etiquette.

David Campbell and Sonia Kruger will again host the annual Christmas Eve concert from Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl. First held in 1938 the event — which raises money for Vision Australia — will this year feature perennial favourites including Marina Prior, Tim Campbell and Anthony Callea.

Following the snow-drenched 2017 episode, the latest instalment of the Call the Midwife Christmas special sees the arrival of the indefatigable Sister Mildred (guest star Miriam Margolyes), who arrives at Nonnatus House with four orphans that she found abandoned in Hong Kong. With festive-season preparations in full swing and plenty of expectant mums keeping the midwives busy, it’s set to be a chaotic festive season in Poplar. ABC is also set to air the 2017 Christmas special on December 27 at 7.30pm.
